A church was built on this site during the Saxon period for Queen Bertha and was dedicated to Saint Martin. The present church has been enlarged from the Norman church that stood here but retains Norman features. In the foreground is a lozenge grave, typical of Kent. Beyond are a couple of very fine gravestones.
