Pollarded would be a more charitable word than lopped, but the outcome will be the same. A mass of shoots will grow, making the trees look like lollipops on long sticks. Doubtless the work has been done (and done well) to give residents more light, and to reduce the extraordinary amount of stuff that lime trees drop through the year: twigs, bud scales, flowers, fruit, bracts, leaves, twigs…
