In imitation of the popular Cofiwch Dreweryn/Remember Treweryn slogans (recalling the flooded valley of Treweryn in mid-Wales) here, half-hidden in the undergrowth below the bridge, a large boulder bears similar motto, white on red, that memorializes the 'Battle for the Preselau' in the late 1940s. The post-war British government sought to take over the Preseli hills, of which Foel Cwmcerwyn is the highest point, for an army firing range, forcing the removal of local farmers from their lands, rendering the area inaccessible to the public, and damaging a unique pre-historic landscape. With great determination and resourcefulness, local people succeeded in preventing the take-over but memories of the fight live on.
