This cottage caught my eye instantly. It's a Category B Listed late 18th century building, described in its citation as an 'unusual miniature version of a formal 18th century laird's house'. See http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB8483 for more details. It was the home of Alexander Smith (1781-1847) and his wife Barbara Stuart (1783-1874), the parents of Donald Alexander Smith (1820-1914), Lord Strathcona and Mount Royal, one of the founders of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
