This former cotton spinning mill was by now owned by Messrs Carbolite, manufacturers of electric furnaces. It has since been converted to accommodation and this room is now part of an apartment. The machinery has all been scrapped. This shows a pair of water turbines by Gilbert Gilkes and Company of Kendal. These were of 20 and 42 horsepower and drove by ropes. The larger one is in the background.
