This is the second Black Bull which has stood on this particular site, the first, which was shown on a plan of 1755, was a coaching inn with a stable to the rear. The present pub was built in 1938 and was designed by Hetherington and Wilson of Newcastle upon Tyne with the three stone bay windows particularly striking.
