Thomas Anguish was a Norwich mayor and philantropist who paid for two residential schools: The boys Bluecoat School in Fishergate (since demolished) and this building, which was for girls, on Hospital Lane, between Hall Road and City Road. From 1941 to 8th April 1952 it was the Thomas Anguish Children's Home for about 60 girls and boys. It was administered by the Norwich City Council Children's Department. Next it became the Lakenham Infant School, and in the 1970s, Lakenham First School. It closed in 2007 when the new Lakenham Primary School was opened on City Road. After a period of closure, it became and still is the Norwich Steiner School
