OS Bench Mark next to War Department boundary stone, marking the edge of the former Bowerham Barracks (King's Own Royal Regiment, c. 1873 - 1959), now a campus of the University of Cumbria. There were 31 of these stones; they are marked and numbered on old 25" OS maps. Most are still extant, and most have had the lettering chiselled off, as here, when the War Dept vacated the site.
