One of the great things about being a member of the Youth Hostel Association was having the opportunity to stay in some amazing and unusual buildings. Westerdale Hall is one such place. I stayed here in June 1991, just a year before it closed. The building was designed by Thomas Henry Wyatt as a shooting lodge for the Duncombe family. It was a youth hostel from 1936 until 1992 when it closed. Today it is privately owned. The building is Grade II listed, see: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1179138
