This row of two-storey Victorian houses, with basements and attics, has an attractive symmetry as it leads downhill to Collingwood Terrace and a view of the River Tyne. Each house, many of which have now been divided into apartments, is accessed via a flight of stone stairs whilst the basement (lower ground floor) is accessed through a door beneath the stairs.
