The road was being resurfaced by contractors working for Leeds City Council. Unlike the upper section of the road Image this lower section does not have stone setts under the tarmac. Looking at old maps it's not clear when the lower section of the road was actually developed: even in 1908 the road is shown coming down to this point but with no housing around it below Snowden Crescent, and the situation is the same in 1921 and 1935; only by 1957 is the lower housing shown.
