When I lived near here this was the A7. Now that number has moved to Old Dalkeith Road (the old A68). I still find the radiating roads from Liberton and Newington confusing at times, especially as some lead to limited access junctions on the City Bypass. The grubby appearance is due to the picture being taken soon after a lot of snow melted.
