The church dates from 1859. The steeple was added in 1884, when the ring of 6 bells was placed in the tower. In 1871 Poynton separated from Prestbury and became a Parish in its own right. The Church, being built in the middle of the 19th Century reflects the architectural tastes of that period - which was to create a building in 13th Century Gothic style.
