Probably built shortly before the creation of the Market Place in 1790 and following the line of the existing road it would explain the unusual triangular shape of the Market Place. The stone-coped gables, traditional in Derbyshire are mostly 18th century in Cromford reinforcing the earlier build date. The wedge lintels incorporating a keystone are also infrequently used in Cromford.
