This Grade II Listed building, which was built in 1882 to a design by F.R.N. Haswell for Hodgkin, Barnett, Pease, Spence and Co., was formerly a bank. It is, according to the 1992 edition of, 'The Buildings of England Northumberland', "in Italianate style, with giant Corinthian order".
