On the Obelisk at Birdwell is this plaque directing the way to the 2nd Earl Of Strafford's country seat. It is a replica plaque put in place in the late 1960s. The original one was very eroded and the local journalist for the Barnsley Chronicle had the new one made and reset. In 2008 the 60 foot Obelisk was put up for sale. Price and new owners unknown. The Obelisk stands at the boundary of 2 great estates, Wentworth Woodhouse (Earls Fitzwilliam) and Wentworth Castle (Earls of Strafford)
