The quarry is on the site of the old Quarter Collieries No.7 & No.8 Pits. There were railway sidings on the left side of the fence, No.7 Pit was on the right and No.8 Pit was behind the camera. The bent section of rail near the fence and the wooden sleeper used as a fence post are evidence of the previous activities. The Music Hall entertainer Sir Harry Lauder worked at No.7 Pit in 1891. The No.8 Pit was started in 1893. In the distance is the snow covered Tinto Hill.
