Looking south-south-west on a dull windy day, the Dudley No 1 Canal passes to the east of the Merry Hill Shopping Centre near Brierley Hill, Dudley. Good visitor moorings are here. The Merry Hill Shopping centre was built during 1985-1990, with later additions. It was built mainly on the green fields of Merry Hill Farm, adjacent to the Round Oak Steelworks, which had closed down in 1982. The first three stores began trading by Christmas 1985.
