The arms in Little St Mary's church were painted in 1744 by Valentine Ritz (1695-1745), whose portraits of such worthies as Newton and Barrow hang at Trinity and several other Cambridge colleges. The arms show quarterly (I) the three lions of England and the lion rampant of Scotland (II) the three fleurs-de-lys of France, to which throne the first three Georges pretended (III) the harp of Ireland and (IV) the white horse and electoral bonnet (plus more lions!) for Hanover.
