This is now demolished. This room contained a Belliss & Morcom reciprocating engine driving an alternator, a steam turbine fire pump, a large Weir pump, turbine circulating pumps and six large calorifiers. All of the calorifiers are seen on the left - Nos. 1. 2 and 3 are for domestic hot water and Nos. 4, 5 and 6 are for heating with pipes in 8.5 miles of subway. In the left background are two domestic hot water circulating pumps driven by Turney steam turbines. We were lucky to get in here during its last couple of months of service as the kitchens were still in use for the new hospital. We were daft, we should have taken a quick turn round the hospital site for a few exterior pictures.
