The station closed to passengers in May 1945, and the platforms were demolished in the 1950s. The booking office at street level and the remains of the footbridge to the platform can be seen in this view; they survived until only a short time after this view, when works commenced on new road approaches to the Mersey Tunnel. The right hand opening was a tunnel leading to Monks Ferry which was the Birkenhead terminal between 1844 and 1878 when Woodside Station was opened. The line to Woodside closed in November 1967.
