The last of the West Riding 1893/94 stones on the route of the Rotherham to Wortley turnpike of 1740-1883. That old route crossed what is now the A61 Barnsley to Sheffield road as does the A629 onwards to Wortley. The pavement was tarmacked in 2018 and most of the milestone is in the ground including CHAPELTOWN/1½ MILES on the lefthand face. Fortunately that keeps the cracked attachment in place. What can be seen has been crudely painted.
