Winson Green Prison Bridge in Birmingham

The bridge carries the towpath of the Soho Loop of the original (1768-1772) main line between Birmingham and Wolverhampton. The prison walls are in the background. There is very little headroom for narrowboats, so was there an earlier higher bridge than this one, predating the prison (which was circa 1849)? Was there a wharf beyond the main prison wall, for allowing deliveries into the prison?
