The distances thereon are London 49; Braintree 9; Sudbury 7: The stone is seen in context at: Image Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1306739 Castle Hedingham is a small village in Essex about 15 miles north west of Colchester. The village developed around the Norman castle and is home to a large number of timber framed medieval buildings. The village’s railway station which was opened in 1867, closed in 1964 and was dismantled and rebuilt in 1974 on a new site to the north west of the village by the Colne Valley Railway Preservation Society.
