St Edward’s Roman Catholic Church was built between 1926-1928 to the designs of Stienlet & Maxwell, a substantial firm of Newcastle-upon-Tyne architects. It was opened on the 23rd April 1928. The church is a Grade II Listed building, noted as, "a striking Romanesque design that blends German and Italian Romanesque elements to successful effect".
