The stone is inscribed "Newlay Bridge 1 mile". I suspect it has been relocated, as a milestone is not shown on large scale old maps in this location, nor is it on the direct route from Horsforth town centre to Newlay, either by road or footpath, and finally the bridge is closer than that (about 1/2 mile on foot, 0.8 miles by road).
