The Wirral and Mersey Special about to enter the tunnels and cuttings through the centre of the town. The sidings on the left with the weighbridge originally served the corporation gas works. Note the capstan alongside which was used with ropes to move wagons around, rather than using a locomotive. The large building which looks like a cinema is the Shaftesbury Boys Club building, opened in 1936. The club http://www.shaftes.org.uk/index.aspx is still (2020) going strong, although having moved to a new site.
