The Robert Weir was a now scrapped steam powered suction dredger. Built in 1957 by Lobnitz and Co of Renfrew and of 1030 GRT, 198' 6" long. The engine seen here was by Lobnitz and a triple expansion with cylinders 13", 22" and 34" bores by 22" stroke. The engine drove both the propeller and the large centrifugal dredging pump. The lever on the left operated one of two clutches, this one being to the propeller. The vessel was broken up in 1998 but the engine is being restored in Staffordshire.
