This is now in store at the regional store at Beamish Museum in County Durham. It is a single cylinder grasshopper beam engine without its flywheel. It is of c1838-40 vintage and was used at Plessey Mill, Cramlington, Northumberland. It was donated by Lord Ridley in 1938. Unfortunately, museums often did not retain flywheels in the earlier days of preservation and there are several beam engines that have suffered this fate. I do not think this would happen now.
