View northwards from Moore Lane bridge. An unidentified Standard 9F locomotive climbs the ramp to the viaduct with a general freight train on the West Coast Main Line. In the foreground is the trackbed of the original alignment prior to the construction of the Manchester Ship Canal. The blocked-up bridge over this carries the line from Chester which joins at Acton Grange Junction this side of the viaduct.
