This 12 foot high cross once stood above the ecumenical Church of the Holy Father which lay at the heart of Communicare complex in Killingworth (New Town) town centre. When the complex was demolished in 2007, the cross was retained and eventually re-erected in this spot close to St. John the Evangelist Church in Killingworth Village (visible in the background). On the 3rd August 2014, to mark the centenary of the start of the Great War (2014-18), the cross was rededicated to the memory of those who lost their lives in the service of the community.
