Surveyed by the Milestone Society. One of these cottages on the A710 at the south end of New Abbey is thought to have been a tollhouse. In 1861 the toll collector was James Dempster, aged 26, and his wife Jane, 20. In 1871 no tollhouse is recorded and the Dempsters had moved on.
