Dating from 1828 the watch-house is included in the listing for the Category B listed church http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB22271. After a funeral relatives and church office-bearers would guard a new grave for several nights from the watch house, as a precaution to prevent corpses being stolen by "Resurrectionists" and sold to medical schools for anatomical dissection.
