Manor Lodge was built as a hunting lodge for the nearby Worksop Manor. The original lodge which dates from the 14th century was for a while the prison for Mary, Queen of Scots in 1568. The present building dates from the 1580’s and was built for George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury.
