These are the early mills made famous by L S Lowry among others. The closest ornamented section is McConnel and Kennedy's Royal Mill (1912) and abuts their Sedgwick Mill (1818-20). A gap separates these mills from Murray's mills. The visible Murray's mills are Old Mill (1798), Decker Mill (1802) and, after another gap, Doubling Mill (1842). These mills have now been converted into accommodation but still form a powerful ensemble indicative of the area's textile past.
