SNC173, on the 714 route to Dorking collects passengers from outside Owen Owen's department store. The independent store was undergoing an external refit at the time. This store was originally the new home of Prior's department store, built in the late 1930's and subsequently taken over by Owen Owen's. Owen Owen's themselves finally succumbed to market forces and closed in 1993. The original main building behind the bus became home to an Argos store and an arcade of small shops appeared in part of the main building and the adjacent building, also part of Owen Owen's, on the right. Although clearly popular, the 714 services ceased in 1977.
