An unusual name, British History Online suggests that the Poggs bit is similar to the Poges in Stoke Poges near Slough https://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/oxon/vol17/pp146-173 . Both villages were at one time in the same ownership, so presumably a medieval family name. As for Broughton, is it Bruffton, Brawton, Browton... that bit's not mentioned. Broughton Poggs and its twin Filkins existed side by side as separate parishes until 1954.
