The modern Tolmers Square, in the triangle created by Euston Road, Hampstead Road and North Gower Street, consists of a ring of council flats incorporating a pub and wine bar. The original plan, in the 1970s, had been to redevelop the site for office accommodation but this was bitterly opposed by residents of the old Tolmers Square. In the end, the demolition went ahead but Camden Council compulsorily purchased the site, scaled back the offices and built the estate pictured here.
