St Martin's Cemetery, between Queensgate and Cartwright Lane, was opened in 1861 to serve the needs of the Beverley Minster parish after the Minster churchyard was closed to further burials. By 1988, the cemetery was full and was closed, except for burials in existing plots. One of its more prominent memorials is seen here; it carries plaques naming Elizabeth Pepper Stephenson, and Robert Stephenson (d 1882).
