This plaque is adjacent to a Ginko tree which was presented to the 2014/15 Mayor of Barnsley. The tree is a descendant of a small cluster of trees near the atomic bomb epicentre that survived the 6th August, 1945 bombing in Hirosima, Japan. Seeds were collected from these trees and sent across the world with the intent of disseminating a message of peace and hope. The tree was planted on 15th August 2020 to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War 2.
