The road was originally called Gutteridge Street, presumably because it led towards Gutteridge Wood, which still exists. For some unknown reason the name was changed to Star Road, presumably after The Star pub on the junction of the road with Uxbridge Road, which might previously have been known as The Wheeler Arms. The Star was demolished in 2014
