A chapel was on the site of the church in the reign of Richard I. At that time it was in the parish of Astbury and it became a parish church in the reign of Henry VIII. The present church dates from around 1550 and it was restored in 1903 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Oswald%27s_Church,_Brereton
