The diesel shunter & its box van first recorded in Image are about to enter the tunnel. The tunnel (288 yds long) was apparently used as an air-shelter by the stationmaster during WWII, just as well perhaps because the station was damaged during an air raid on 16th March 1941. Most of the damage was to buildings & the signal box on the down platform. The bombers were perhaps hoping to hit the viaduct over Cheltenham Road just beyond the station.
