Originally built in the late 16th century much of the mansion was destroyed by fire in 1771 and later demolished, leaving just the southern wing remaining. Restored in the 1930s with a northern wing added in a similar design. Up to 2009 this was the home of Carla Lane, creator of sitcoms The Liver Birds and Bread.
