The physic garden was in the grounds of Hitchin Museum. It is named in honour of William Ransom, a Hitchin Quaker, who set up the Ransom pharmaceutical company in Hitchin in 1846. The company survives and continues to be based in Hitchin. William's story can be found here: https://www.hertfordshirelife.co.uk/people/life-times-william-ransom-hitchin-1-1641398 The museum has now moved elsewhere but the garden remains. It is maintained by members of Hitchin Historical Society but is currently closed as a result of coronavirus.
