Green belt land that separates Coventry and Birmingham is known as the Meriden Gap. Although some of it is devoted to golf courses, fisheries and the like, there remain tracts of peaceful open countryside much valued by residents of the area. Inevitably the proximity to major conurbations means that there is a great deal of development pressure which has led to calls for the area to be designated a national park.
