View west of the lane near Lockeridge Farm, Lower Hook. They're ant hills of the yellow meadow ant (lasius flavus), which are quite common around here - and explains why the green woodpecker is so common here too. The ants like the high ground because the ant hills are temperature-controlled nurseries and need to be dry to allow air flow over the larvae.
