Almost certainly the oldest pub in Harrogate, Hales bar was once known as The Promenade Inn, then after rebuilding in 1827 and further enlargement in 1856 it became known as Hodgson's Inn. In 1882 William Hales became landlord and changed the name again. The interior is notable for its period gas lighting and Victorian fittings. Scenes from the film 'Chariots of Fire' were filmed here.
