The lodge dates back to the early 19th Century and is a Grade II Listed Building. It stands on Butchers Lane at the gateway to the avenue and driveway to Shottesbrooke Park. It is 'middle' lodge as the driveway used to continue on to the north, to a second gateway and lodge on Cherrygarden Lane, but these were removed with the development of White Waltham Airfield in the Second World War.
