Sgt, Smith was the Wireless Operator and Air Gunner in Wellington HF471 of 30 OTU. out of RAF Hixon, Staffs.on the 11th April 1944 on a Night-time navigation training exercise. At approximately 2100hrs, the aircraft descended from cloud in a dive and crashed into fields at Sandhall Farm, on the E bank of the River Ouse near Goole, East Yorkshire. Sgt.
